阿标打发走俞元乾之后，将手下各路头目找来问是谁干的，各路人马没人敢承认。离开阿标后，阿杜向白长起要另一半钱，白长起拒绝了阿杜。常乐问白长起失踪的姑娘和他有无关系，白长起教训常乐不要管他的事情。郑世昌和徐海在寻找姑娘们的时候，遇见在街头卖艺的马香瑶和姚飞飞，郑世昌将他们请到戏班。马香瑶一进来就开始摆谱，要了单间。郑世昌安排他们接演小菊等人角色。警察带人来百乐宫了解情况，阿杜拒不承认那3个姑娘是百乐宫的舞女，警察将阿杜带到看守所和姑娘们当面对质。阿杜见隐瞒不住，只好承认是自己的舞女，但宣称她们已在半年前跑了。阿杜花钱买通了警察，小菊等人被关了起来，而阿杜却脱清了干系。俞松在申报上登出寻人启示，青莲见到后特意约见俞松了解情况。

郑世昌坚持不离开申城，白长起快要被逼疯了，他来找青莲，再次恳求青莲跟他走，青莲和以前一样拒绝了他。郑世昌接到常乐秘密送来的纸条，透露出小菊她们就在看守所。郑世昌来看守所找人，因为小菊她们用的是假名，担心暴露身份后对戏班影响不好，对看守的叫喊没有应答。郑世昌没能见到她们。俞松采访赵局长，确认警察确实抓了3个殴打洋人的舞女。俞松想在报纸上登出来，赵局长认为报馆刊登有关报道会不利于问题的解决。

马香瑶在排戏时故意刁难徐海，姚飞飞劝她珍惜现在的机会，马香瑶却认为戏班离不开她，就得耍大牌，在别人排练时，她却回房休息，让姚飞飞又气又无奈。青莲提醒丁香到了去看守所慰问的日子。丁香为了给赵局长积阴德，每年都要到看守所探望女犯。青莲化装后陪丁香来到看守所，高小菊等人向丁香喊怨，引起丁香的同情。丁香向赵局长求情。
