周班主急火攻心，突然栽倒。青莲急匆匆赶到医院，得了突发性脑溢血的周班主已被抢救过来，但不能说话。他担心戏班印章的安全，要青莲替他去取印章。青莲先去找白长起算账。白长起表示，只要她吩咐，他可以和鸿运戏班续约。青莲打开周班主房间的抽屉寻找印章，被赶来的马香瑶堵在屋里。马香瑶指责青莲偷老板的钱，煽动艺人们将周班主的房间洗劫一空。

白长起来到医院，向周班主提出续约问题。周班主急于签约，不顾医生劝阻，要马上回戏班找青莲要印章。白长起带着周班主回到鸿运戏班驻地，发现早已人去楼空，周班主面对洗劫的场面，当即摔倒昏迷过去。青莲赶来，以为周班主是看到戏班的惨状才加重病情的，埋怨白长起不该带他来。周班主病重在床，白长起为将青莲留在身边，想拉着青莲接手鸿运戏班，青莲却表示他们之间没有合作的可能，她要退出梨园。

韶华戏班的姑娘们发现了照相馆摆放的青莲和雨虹的照片。郑世昌请俞元乾牵线，寻找演出场所。俞元乾从报上得知鸿运戏班解散了，就来到大华戏院。白长起得知郑世昌带着戏班来到申城，先来找到青莲，得知青莲不肯见郑世昌，就让常乐安排宴请郑世昌等人。青莲在白长起走后，更加思念起世昌，而世昌看到报上青莲隐退的报道，对和彩云长得一样的青莲充满疑虑。

白长起宴请郑世昌等人，邀请韶华戏班到大华戏院来演出，郑世昌表示按规矩正式登台前试戏，并请白长起给戏班介绍两个琴师。席间谈起青莲和彩云关系，白长起表示绝不是一个人，他也错认过。白长起带师妹们逛街，出手很大方，安排常乐经常带姑娘们逛街，姑娘们没有心思排练。姑娘们因在乡下唱红过，并不接受琴师的调教。郑世昌请琴师吃饭，琴师提出姑娘们没有达到登台水平，如不抓紧训练必砸无疑。
