傅作义陪同蒋介石去瞻仰中山陵里孙中山的塑像。骑兵旅长鄂有三猜出傅作义出兵的真实目的，要求自己也带队，不希望中央军抢了头功。岳犁接到上级要求，要更具体地了解傅作义的部署。邴泉自告奋勇，说他去西山找自己的老乡鄂有三。在席间，邴泉佯装自己已经喝醉，从鄂有三嘴里了解到蒋介石的阴谋，心中一惊。邴泉拒绝了鄂有三的挽留，以赶稿为由，借了一匹战马，连夜向北平飞奔。遇到一处沟坎，邴泉被甩下马，不省人事。岳犁和王婶等邴泉的消息无果，担心邴泉出事，决定改变接头地点。邴泉清晨带伤赶回北平，几经周折，终于找到岳犁，告诉他自己了解的情况。事出紧急，岳犁急忙找袁鸣行破例冒险发电报。老杨在街头给他们放哨。他们的讯号把特务段云鹏和计彩楠引来。老杨用拉白菜的板车挡住侦讯车，在与段云鹏的争斗中牺牲了。警察冲进发报室，却一无所获。刘仁接到岳犁的电报，急忙通知李克农。此时毛主席正在给妇女代表们开会，给他们讲了自己母亲的故事。
