愚公和南孙寒带着两家老少夜以继日地挖山。操蛇神意识到形势越来越严峻，决心狠狠地整治一下夹缝村村民，让村民去制约愚公的行动。他请来大力兄弟，让大力兄弟躺在夹缝村地下，翻了几个身，震塌了村民的不少房屋。村民们大呼山神动怒了，四处奔命。同时，操蛇神的暴行也激怒了部分村民，越来越多的人纷纷加入到了挖山的行列。智叟以愚公挖山，山神动怒，祸及百姓，让许多村民无家可归为名，煽动族长六叔公将愚公捆进祠堂，准备按族规治死。愚公历数祖祖辈辈饱受巨山阻隔的艰辛和穷困，痛说村民年年以玉女、牛羊祭祀山神，使多少乡亲痛失亲人，使多少儿男失恋人打光棍，而山中恶神却丝毫不保一方平安，还作恶人间，鱼肉百姓。只有搬掉大山才能道路通达，只有平山种粮才能衣食无忧，只有铲除恶神才能永保平安。因此，挖山是造福子孙后代的义举，是战天地、斗鬼神的壮举。愚公的一席话引发一片啜泣声，纷纷走出祠堂，拿起工具挖山。最后祠堂里只剩捆在大柱上的愚公、族长六叔公和智叟，六叔公含泪为愚公解开了绳索。智叟怏怏而去。枯树精终于忍不住偷偷将紫玉前世曾与愚公相恋的身世告诉了紫玉，紫玉惊愕不已，由暗中与操蛇神作对，变成公开反对操蛇神和众妖魔的暴行，使法术把村民倒塌的房屋一一还原。
