慈禧和光绪一起驾崩，宣统皇帝继位。阿尔萨兰接到宫中特急电报，她将信件拿给了侯久满看，侯久满看出没有让他进京的意思，阿尔萨兰准备带着下良进京。侯正良准备去朝廷打探盐的说法，侯久满建议安排木棉跟随照顾他们。

新任太后见到侯正良准备给他补个实职，到屋后皇太后对阿尔萨兰说出了心里话，他知道皇上十分痛恨袁世凯，皇上的死也是个谜，阿尔萨兰决心诛杀袁世凯，她将侯久满加紧研究枪炮的事情汇报给了太后。

枪炮局的工人找戴刀诉苦，他们已经多月未发包饷银，侯久满准备在厂里自铸钱币，戴刀将工匠准备罢工的消息告诉了侯久满。侯久满猜出是有人故意带头闹事，对付工匠他有自己的办法。侯可言当选了广东资议局议员，还当上了坐办，他打算搬出侯府居住。
