卡西迪向杰西讲那两个自称政府的人的事情。卡西迪想要带杰西离开，可是杰西不以为意。郊外坑里面挖出一具女性尸体莱西。周围的人包括发言人坤卡侬先生都极度冷漠，在场的图丽普表示很愤怒。杰西来到艾米丽的家里，询问艾米丽上星期来教堂的人数。杰西想多点人来到教堂，于是希望想拿点抽奖活动来吸引群众。卡西迪询问那两个男人对杰西的计划，卡西迪得知有人有可能要杀掉杰西。卡西迪答应很快就带杰西去见那两个男人。其中一个男人肚子饿出去觅食。迈尔斯提议坤卡侬与新的人合作，坤卡侬拒绝。艾米丽拿着作为抽奖的电视机回到家。市长迈尔斯帮助艾米丽照顾着小孩。迈尔斯和艾米丽喝酒谈心。在莱西的追悼会上，图丽普愤怒指出害死莱西的原因。妓院老板莫西解除了图丽普和其他人可能会引起的纷争。可是暴躁的图丽普还是忍不住上去揍了克莱夫一顿，可是却误伤了卡西迪，卡西迪堕楼，身陷重伤。杰西与坤卡侬先生一起做模型，杰西希望能有个有影响力的人出现在教会，于是邀请坤卡侬一起到教会中，坤卡侬拒绝。坤卡侬先生声称不怕死后会到审判。于是杰西开始用意念来威胁坤卡侬，可是坤卡侬一点都不畏惧。于是杰西转变方法，开始用坤卡侬想收的杰西父亲名下的地来利诱坤卡侬。到了礼拜天，杰西开始布道，教堂来了很多人。坤卡侬由于利益的诱惑也来了，杰西想让坤卡侬先认识到自己的罪行，问坤卡侬是否愿意侍奉上帝，坤卡侬断然拒绝。杰西多次追问，坤卡侬还是拒绝。生气之下的坤卡侬想离开教堂，杰西用意念逼迫了坤卡侬，坤卡侬在众人面前说愿意侍奉上帝。
