第9集:开港变局

第二次鸦片战争后，从1860年开始，台湾的淡水、安平、基隆和高雄先后开港。台湾的蔗糖、樟脑和茶叶，作为清末的“台湾三宝”大量出口，而茶叶成为最大宗的出口商品。茶叶贸易的繁荣，促使台北大稻埕应势崛起，成为北部最繁荣的港市。1874年5月，经历明治维新而国力日渐强盛的日本，以琉球漂民在台湾牡丹社被杀为由，入侵台湾。船政大臣沈葆桢被清廷任命为钦差大臣，赴台处理“牡丹社事件”危局。

在与日军的对峙交涉过程中，沈葆桢在台湾推进一系列全新的治台举措。台南的亿载金城，是沈葆桢修建的，它是台湾的第一座西式炮台。台南的延平郡王祠，是沈葆桢顺应台湾民心而奉旨建造。台湾东海岸的苏花公路，可以追溯到沈葆桢的“开山抚番”。沈葆桢调集清兵，开出南、北、中三条道路，台湾前山和后山得以贯通。南部设恒春县，北部设台北府，都是沈葆桢当时做出的规划。在沈葆桢等人的建议下，清廷废止渡台禁令，台湾由此全面开放，进入近代化建设时期。
