在陈蛤蜊这个盗墓高手的指点下，战俘们成功越狱，虽然有一些狱友在铁丝网前牺牲了，但更多的人逃了出来，跟着丁啸天回到了新四军。

银子见到啸天，悲喜交加，两人终于紧紧拥抱在一起。

独立大队渐渐变成了一支军纪严明的部队，张政委还给大伙讲阶级斗争的政治课，大家都听得很认真，唯独丁啸天不以为然。

国民党要求新四军转移布防，向东撤退，丁啸天不同意，但还是执行了命令。走到一半，丁啸天不想走了，带着自己的死党部下趁黑夜返回炎刘，张政委和银子清晨起来，已经不见丁啸天的身影，只好带着大部队继续东撤，途中遭到祁春秋的埋伏，原来蒋介石决心要趁机削弱共产党的力量。

丁啸天干脆给祁春秋来个围魏救赵，直奔陈县拿下了祁春牧，祁春秋撤退了。银子和丁啸天再次相聚，张政委答应打走了鬼子就亲自保媒。

对日反攻打响了，战斗前所未有的残酷，张政委阵亡，银子身负重伤，啸天把银子送到医院，自己再也支撑不住，倒了下去。
