五郎来到西巢鸭站附近的房产中介公司。这次他是受客户森田先生委托来考察森田所要租赁的铺面。虽然不是自己要租，但是也被要求填写申请表.中介公司的社长看到五郎填写的内容时，把五郎的名字叫错了。五郎正要纠正，中介公司的男员工和女员工抢着纠正社长的读音错误，然而他们同样没有读对。听到自己的名字被叫错，五郎感到有点尴尬。顺利完成勘察后，五郎走在商店街上，肚子又咕咕叫起来。急吼吼地把钥匙还给中介公司后，他看到了“寿喜烧呷哺呷哺”的招牌，下决心走了进去。这间店的柜台呈U字形，店内空间宽阔得不可思议。年轻的女老板递上菜单，五郎思来想去选中了“上州寿喜锅套餐”。套餐终于端上来了，五郎环顾四周，发现没有别的顾客吃寿喜锅，只有他独自就着滚滚的蒸气涮雪花肉。套餐中包括了加入猪肉的味噌汤、米饭和咸菜，个个都非常好吃。五郎又多点了个鸡蛋，锅中的牛肉和蔬菜也特别美味，最后，他很奢侈地用浸渍调味汁的牛肉和蛋液拌饭吃。全吃光后，要了第三个鸡蛋，把乌冬面和鸡蛋液放入锅同煮，然后全部吃净。喝了杯冰咖啡后，五郎十分满足地结束了这场一个人的忘年会。
