北大荒。直脾气的孙曼玲说做就做，她去河边向齐勇道歉后并勇敢表白，但事实上，齐勇对孙曼玲早也已经有意思了。二人表述衷情后，正式谈起了恋爱。为了保护孙曼玲，不让谈恋爱的事情影响到她，齐勇还因此被二班的几个得知真相的兄弟敲诈了一些罐头。

又是一个假期，周萍去边防的时候，路过边防女兵驻扎处，闻到鱼汤的味道，嘴馋吃鱼结果被卡刺，但也因此，她认识了热心的鲁楠。但不幸的事情发生了，边防其他女战士在捕鱼的时候不幸落水，周萍奋不顾身地跳下水救人。

周萍没按照约定的时间来，赵天亮坐立不安。等了许久，终于看到周萍。周萍因为没救回全部女战士，而且鲁楠还因为救人牺牲了，周萍觉得相当自责。对于这个突如其来的事件，男一班的战士们感慨不已，大家编织了花篮，在河边为死去的女兵默哀。

周萍回到山东屯后，组织对周萍热心救人给予嘉奖，但周萍想到死去的兵连女战士，觉得自己不配拥有这个嘉奖，她把奖状烧了。

周萍送给男一班的兔子小白被苏联狗娜嘉叼去了那边，众知青束手无策，孙敬文急得不行。

男一班的知青对娜嘉很是愤怒，但娜嘉跑回了边界那边，众知青和苏联兵为此还在边界对峙了一会，差点就交火。幸亏魏明懂得俄语，双方沟通之后发现是误会一场，但对方表示，这个事情他们管不了，众知青无奈折了回来。和兔子感情最好的孙敬文，依旧非常愤怒。赵天亮针对这个事件，提醒男一班的知青们，守卫边疆的主要任务，以后不能再发生类似事件了。
